YEN-YU, TSENG
CONTEMPORARY TEXTILE ARTIST
Yen-Yu Tseng is a contemporary artist from Taiwan. Her art focuses on material history and environmental protection. She transforms second-hand clothes into sculptural art by using a special "Wrapping" technique. This method is a creative constraint because it only uses hands, clothes, and thread.
With her background as a school art teacher, she guides people to rethink the value of old textiles. In her workshops, participants wrap their clothes to create art and share their personal memories with collective experience. The wrapping process creates a mental space for their minds.
Tseng has achieved great success in her art career. She is the winner of the 16th Li Chun-Shan Visual Art Award in Taiwan, and her works are in the permanent collection of the Rothko Museum. She shares her sustainable practice globally, including her participation in the Contextile Art Biennial with the European Green Capital project.
